New York Times bestselling author Jean Kwok speaks to NationalWorld’s Suswati Basu on facing a US school board to stop the challenge of her book Girl in Translation, as many works face a ban in the country.

She says these are “political movements underneath this and some of there are national groups that are organising these book challenges”.

Who is Jean Kwok and why is she facing potential US book ban?

Jean Kwok is a Chinese-American author who was born in Hong Kong and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is best known for her novel “Girl in Translation”. It was a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into 17 languages. Kwok’s writing often focuses on the experiences of immigrants and the challenges they face in adapting to new cultures. She has also written essays and short stories that have appeared in various publications. These include The New York Times and The Huffington Post.

She is among many authors, including bestselling authors such as Jodi Picoult and Judy Blume facing challenges and bans on their books targeted by conservatives.
