- 📚 Rikers: An Oral History by Graham A. Rayman and Reuven Blau (2023). A shocking, groundbreaking oral history of the infamous Rikers jail complex and an unflinching portrait of injustice and resilience told by the people whose lives have been turned upside down by the prison.
- 📚 A Few Days Full of Trouble: Revelations on the Journey to Justice for My Cousin and Best Friend, Emmett Till by Christopher Benson and Wheeler Parker (2023). The book recounts Parker’s memories of Till, the events leading up to his murder, and the subsequent investigation and trial. Parker also reflects on the legacy of Till’s death and its impact on the Civil Rights Movement.
- 📚 The Crisis of Democratic Capitalism by Martin Wolf (2023). The book argues that the relationship between democracy and capitalism is in crisis, and that this crisis is threatening the future of both systems.
- 📚 Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver (2022). Demon Copperhead is a novel about a young boy who overcomes adversity to find his voice and his place in the world. Check out her live talk as part of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, which she won this year.
- 📚 The Light We Carry: Overcoming In Uncertain Times by Michelle Obama (2022). Obama offers practical wisdom and powerful strategies for staying hopeful and balanced in today’s uncertain world.
