LGBT History Month is a month of celebrating and recognising the hard fought battles won by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities which is why we’re looking at the best books. February marks the ongoing mission for equality among people of different sexualities and genders.

It is an observance of the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. It was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-school history teacher Rodney Wilson. Whilst in the UK, it originated in 2004 by Schools OUT co-chairs, Paul Patrick and Professor Emeritus Sue Sanders. It was first celebrated in February 2005.

Here are some great book recommendations from PinkNews reporter Tijen Butler, Matthew Cornford, Managing Director of QueerLit.co.uk and Eleanor Medhurst, a lesbian fashion historian and founder of the Dressing Dykes blog.
