The letter presents a stark and harrowing picture of the situation in Gaza. It outlines the devastating impact of Israeli military actions, citing over 31,000 Palestinian casualties, including approximately 12,000 children. The signatories highlight the destruction of homes, displacement of families, and the use of banned chemical weapons, painting a dire situation for the children of Gaza.

“As children’s publishing professionals, we create our work for the sake of all the children in the world–without exception.”

In addition to detailing the physical damage, it emphasises the emotional and psychological trauma endured by Palestinian children. The group of publishing professionals expresses deep concern over the reported use of excessive force and weaponry by Israeli forces, allegedly supported by US military aid.

The letter also references a statement from UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell, who underscores the critical need for humanitarian aid in Gaza, hindered by current conditions.

They strongly oppose what they describe as acts of genocide against the Palestinian people and express alarm over the US government’s role in the conflict.

“Our deepest desire now is that the children and all civilians affected are immediately allowed the chance to start healing. Every minute counts.”
